(1) Did you know that the suburb was initially known as Mooloolah Heads? Thomas O'Connor subdivided land for sale there in 1919, and it was then that the name changed. The name Mooloolaba was acquired either from the Aboriginal word 'mulu', which means snapper fish or 'mulla', meaning red-bellied black snake.

(2) Some people may remember Australian actress, Diane Cilento who was born and lived in Mooloolaba. She was the envy of millions of girls worldwide when she married Sean Connery, the dashing actor who was well known for his role as James Bond in many movies! The couple had a holiday home on Parkyn Parade.

(3) Mooloolah Heads was the gateway to the Maroochy District between 1870 and 1884. Because Point Cartwright offered protection, the port was preferred over the Maroochy River, and steamers carried passengers, timber and produce between Mooloolaba and Brisbane.
