(1) Noosa was renamed Noosa Heads in 1988. Noosa's early wealth began with the timber and milling industries in the 1800s. Tourism started occurring in the late 1920s, and it was this decade that saw cafes and tourist accommodation built along the beachfront. The town has seen many tussles between developers and others seeking to preserve the originality of the town.

(2) The name Noosa came from the Aboriginal word meaning "shadows" or "shade", which probably referred to a stand of tall forests that offered relief from the sun. The Kabi tribe had visited the Noosa area for 40,000 years before Europeans first arrived in the 1800s.

(3) By 1877, the land was surveyed, and Noosa was laid out as an official town. There were two hotels, a school, a police station, and a telegraph office in the early years. Fishing was the primary source of income, along with mineral and timber extraction.
